"SUPER" VIRUS THREAT
by Mike Martin
01/10/1999

Anti-virus experts are now seeing new “super” viruses appearing that bear similarity to previously identified viruses.  Speculation is that virus authors are re-using earlier program code to produce new strains of existing viruses.

Two new viruses have been discovered recently – one (W32/kriz.3862) is particularly dangerous in that it seriously damages the PC making it impossible to reboot.  It is currently quite rare, but could spread very quickly.  The other is called Toadi and is typically distributed from web sites offering passwords to Internet pornographic sites.

The major anti-virus software companies have now updated their virus signature files; these updates can be freely downloaded from their respective web sites.

As we so often say, “please make sure that your anti-virus software is up to date”.
